A Photo-Ode to Rio's Open Streetcars

What began as a simple location query by Mr. Ribeiro, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has enlarged in scope to incorporate the many additional photographs of the RIO open cars being made available for viewing on this website. And, in addition, Helio has had his questions answered far in excess of what he, or we, thought possible. Many viewers supplied supplemental data and the Rockhill Trolley Museum, through their current president, Joel Salomon , has made available many photographs from their/his collection.

That is what this additional page is about. If you haven’t a clue as to what we are talking about, do check out the original Brazil page and then come back here to enjoy the whole sequence, with an extensive look at Rio's open streetcars as they made their way to North America and our trolley museums - many years ago.

The photos will be laid out in an approximate date-line. For the trolley aficionados, you will be familiar with the time sequence. For the casual viewer - we know that you will appreciate these historical, rare photographs.
