CTM Campus - 2nd Annual Plant Swap Meet
|
|
|
|
Saturday, May 17 from 2:00 p.m.- 3:30 p.m.
The New England Gardenshare group is holding its second tail-gate plant swap meet at The Museum in May. Participants are encouraged to bring one or more plants to swap and to share their love of gardening. You needn't belong to the Museum or the garden club to join in on this fun adventure!
There is no charge to attend and this will be a great opportunity to pick up some new species for your own gardens. Don't throw those early spring divisions into the compost pile. Bring them to the meet and let them live again!
The New England Gardenshare is an online gardening group whose goal it is to share anything to do with gardening. Members share advice, plants, seeds, tools, and their passion for gardening.
For more information about the swap or in joining the New England Gardenshare, contact Cheryl: englishivy05@yahoo.com

Promises, promises, promises (unkept)
OK everyone - lets all guess the date of this vehicles arrival at the CTM; 5years ago, ten years, maybe 15 even! So now let’s guess when its refurbishment will begin; 5 years from now, ten years, maybe even 15. Do you believe that there will be much left to work with? Do you think that there may even be any parts left to cannibalize? You look at this photo and derive your own conclusion. Multiply this poor creature by --- well, --- you name the quantity. |

HELP US PURCHASE THIS TIE-SETTER
|
||||
|
|
||||
We need to raise approximately $2000 to purchase this used tie-setter. With this machine we can replace some challenged track ties at a rate 10 times faster than an all manual crew – if we could get that full crew together! Please donate and we can have the ties replaced before our main-season begins in late June. It only takes a few dollars from each of us if all will chip in. For all of you who have helped us replace ties in the past or intend to help in the future – think of how this will ease the strain on your back. Please help now as this machine will probably be on the market for a very short time …

An added incentive to contribute:
For those contributing $100 we will send you a limited edition (serialized) 5 x 7" – "digital pen & ink" trolley reproduction - printed on archival parchment paper, matted (8 x 10” white, acid-free mat) and sleeved, ready for framing. A $50 giftshop value... Your choice:
A four piece grouping will look terrific framed and on your den wall! Where else can you donate to such a good cause and get something tangible for your money. And remember - these are low numbered, very limited edition prints in claret ink... |

NOW IS THE HOUR
"Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party," sayeth Charley Weller in 1867. Well, in 2008 we might adapt that to read; “Now is the time for all men and women of good will to come to the aid of their Museum”.
Folks, we need your involvement with many of the activities that make your Museum campus such a great day trip destination for so many. Give us just a few hours of your precious time – you name the hours and the day(s).
We know that Little League is starting and last years leaves need to be raked and the gardens tilled but think of what a small effort on your part would do for this Museum scene!
When you and the family come by for some fun time later on you can point and say; “I did that or I weeded that area myself or I painted that wall or made that sign - neat eh?”
It doesn’t take long to accomplish some great things around the campus and all will be proud of your time spent and accomplishments made, in the name of community service.
We are not a hard taskmaster and we don’t ask for much, just some of your time and interest for a short period to give your favorite Trolley Museum that much needed shot-in-the-arm!
Give our multi-tasking Office Manager/Party Coordinator - Carol - a call or email. She will be delighted to hear from you…

WHAT DOES THE USAF AND THE CTM HAVE IN COMMON? |
|
|
|
Well Ladies, perhaps you can't fly one of these, like these Airwomen, but how about becoming a Motor-woman with Trolley Central? We always have openings for Operators and invite you to call or email us - we are not just a mens organization! We cordially invite you to "be all that you can be" as The Museum carries that same theme into the 21st century. Join us for the fun and excitement of piloting a trolley car down the track on a warm summer’s day. “Ya gotta love it…” |

Day Trip With Us With thoughts of four dollar a gallon gas, this summer, sending shivers through our collective souls, we want you to know that we have kept our admission pricing the same as last year. The fact of the matter is (don’t you love the politicians fact-speak?) we now have an even improved pricing structure for reserved groups of thirty or more! With our campus being so centralized in Connecticut and just one effortless mile off of a major Interstate route (I-91) we are an easy and economical drive from most New England States (New York too;-) Spend the day, or just part of it with us, then perhaps search out some of the other fascinating attractions that Connecticut provides: The Air Museum - just a short drive west of us in Windsor Locks, the world famous Mystic Aquarium - a bit of a longer drive to the southeast corner also boasting the old sailing town of New London. How about a short drive down I-91 to Hartford where Elizabeth Park, in June, is filled with the color and sweet scent of one of the finest displays of roses that may be found in this hemisphere. Day tripping has become the norm in these trying times so get out and get away for short periods this season. Conserve energy and at the same time the contents of your hard earned bank account. Our open (and closed) trolley cars await your presence and you should anticipate an invigorating journey into the slowed pace that was the yesteryear of your Grandparents. Travel light and feel the exhilaration of expectance as the trolley motors strain to pick up speed and the sights and sounds overwhelm your senses as you travel the forested corridor of our one and one half mile mainline. We like to tell folks that each trolley car has its own personality, and they do, so hop aboard each one and redo the down-line trip until you have found your very own favorite. There is no limit to, or additional charge for, having this much fun. We can guarantee that you will be back another day!

TRACKLESS TROLLEYS and BOSTON’S ARBORWAY LINE
An in-depth look into the history of one of the prime movers of the Massachusett Transit Authority (MTA).
Mr. Paul Joyce has put together a terrific article along with a few “oldies” photographs for our “on-line newsletter” readers.
The CTM has three of these critters discussed; #8483, 8488 & 8494 on the back '40 lot, at the moment, in somewhat less than pristine condition, awaiting restoration.

The WW&F Narrow Gauge RailRoad
We recently asked Mr. James Patten, webmaster of the WW&F web site, if he would care to put together a synopsis of his (favorite) RR for our CTM "online-newsletter" visitors. He has graciously done so on very short notice.
This is a Maine (USA) narrow gauge railroad that is growing each year in length and membership. I believe that you will enjoy his narrative and the many great photographs. Select any photo on the WW&F page to view the enlargement.
